Client: Kuala Lumpur City Council

Nature of contract: Environmental restoration of a 35-acre landfill

Cypark, worked closely with CyEn Resources Sdn Bhd (www.cy-en.com), Cypark’s environmental arm, on this project. The “safe closure” of a dumpsite ensures that the site would no longer pollute the environment around it. The process involves many civil and environmental works, including engineered soil capping, surface water drainage, leachate collection and treatment, landfill gas collection and treatment, and landscaping works.

The former ghastly site, plagued with foul smell, dusty conditions, pests and airborne vectors, was transformed into a rejuvenated green hill – good enough to serve as a putting green. The benefits to the surrounding communities include a more conducive living and working environment, as well as higher property value.

The success of the project also earned Cypark and CyEn various commendations from foreign parties, including the visiting delegates of the Brownfield Asia 2006 organised by the Institute of Engineers Malaysia.
